Byrd Park Concessions

The aesthetic design of this octagonal-shaped building was thoughtfully developed to complement the park’s older, classic pavilions, creating a cohesive architectural language throughout the space. It serves as a permanent facility that enhances the visitor experience by providing areas for food and snack concessions, public restrooms, and a maintenance room, as well as storage for a small mobile cart. Additionally, this structure acts as a hub for recreational activities, offering ticket sales for paddleboat rides.

The project integrates multiple sustainable design strategies, prioritizing environmental responsibility. Natural daylighting and passive ventilation reduce energy consumption, while cool roof shingles help mitigate heat absorption. Water-efficient plumbing systems were installed to conserve resources, and locally sourced materials were used to minimize the building’s environmental footprint and support regional economies.
