Goochland Cares Free Clinic and Family Services

|

Goochland Cares is a non-profit organization that provides 11 essential assistance and healthcare programs to individuals and families throughout the greater Goochland community. Previously, these programs operated from multiple locations, but the organization sought to consolidate them into one facility, making it easier for residents to access all the services they need in one place.

Our involvement began with programming, a feasibility study, and graphic renderings, which supported the ALL.HERE.NOW. fundraising capital campaign for the new building’s construction. The design goal was to create a welcoming environment that felt like home. To achieve this, the building’s exterior was crafted in a residential vernacular, blending harmoniously with the surrounding community. The interior drew inspiration from the area’s horse farms, with a palette of blue and green complemented by warm wood textures and copper accents.

The completed facility includes several key spaces: a large shared waiting area, a 700-square-foot community education room, a 5,000-square-foot medical and dental clinic with a pharmacy, a 3,200-square-foot clothes closet thrift store with laundry services, a 2,400-square-foot food pantry, a mental health clinic, and an administrative office suite.

Bringing all these services under one roof significantly enhanced Goochland Cares’ ability to serve the community. The building’s innovative design has since become a model for other free clinics, inspiring similar facilities in other regions.
